The Au d’Hex boutique hotel and wedding venue is situated in the picturesque Wellington winelands, boasting beautifully manicured gardens and a quaint floating jetty overlooking the mountains.
With the 2014 wedding season in full swing, Au d’Hex approached us with a project to design a custom stretch tent installation for their floating jetty, providing desired cover for wedding guests.
Design and Manufacturing Process
- The size of the structure would be 150m2.
- The outer poles that would support the structure were designed from 3mx140mm gum poles.
- The poles would be angled out over the water to create ample shade on the jetty.
- Heavy duty steel cups and flanges were manufactured to ensure that the lateral tension of the tent did not damage the jetty or snap the poles.
What made this design unique is the pentagon-like shape of the jetty. Accurate measurement of the sixteen supporting poles were crucial.
Custom Stretch Tent Installation
Once the membrane was manufactured, the RHI crew arrived on site in the early morning hours; well organised with every possible piece of rigging equipment. Five hours later the installation was set up – without any crew members landed up in the dam!.
The End Result
The aesthetics of the stretch tent beautifully compliment the backdrop of the farmlands and surrounding mountain range. Apart from an expertly manufactured product, we’ve also supplied Au d’Hex with a functional addition to its wedding venue. We’re sure that guests will be making some fond memories here, enjoying the magnificent setting.
