Pemba – a port town on Mozambique’s northeastern coast – is a tropical paradise boasting coral reefs close to shore and a long white-sand beach backed by palm trees. This is the setting for The Nautilus Hotel; the site of our most recent custom stretch tent installation.
In 2013, the new owners of the hotel undertook a massive renovation and refurbishment project, which included the addition of a sleek and sophisticated custom stretch tent for the outside seating area of the ocean-facing restaurant. RHI was commissioned to design (and install) a tent that adhered to the following brief:
- Functional: Provide respite against the tropical heat. RHI’s technologically-advanced stretch fabric regulates the temperature inside (underneath) the tent.
- Practical: Easy to maintain. RHI’s tent fabric is coated with dirt repellents that make cleaning a breeze.
- Aesthetically beautiful: Compliment the natural beauty of the untouched African coastline. RHI Stretch Tents’ inherent organic shape blends in seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

The finished product far exceeded the client’s expectations and helped put Nautilus on the map as a “go to” destination for tourists in the area. Since the revamp, the hotel has grown in popularity, and in 2019 the owners were looking to extend the cover over the restaurant’s outdoor seating area. They again reached out to RHI, who replaced the stretch tent with an extended version to accommodate a greater number of visitors.
